The Car Wreck

When Johnna and I got married and started having kids, I ended up taking Johnna's Mazada RX7 sport's car.  She got my Mazada 626 which had more leg room and an automatic transmission.  I loved the RX7!  It was fast and fun to drive.

Once day before lunch, I was downtown next to Houston's George Brown Convention center driving to an appointment in One Allen Center.  Houston's downtown is 30 miles per hour with multitudes of traffic lights.  As I was crossing a light I was suddenly struck at the front right side by a car.  I was whipped around to end up facing the opposite direction that I was originally going.  I had some tight fitting, bicycle sport sun glasses on which flew off of my head into the back of the car.  This should tell you how hard I was struck.

After collecting my wits, I got out of my car to go see about the driver who hit me.  The car who hit me was wrapped around a telephone pole.  Every side of that car was dented and crushed.  I rushed up to find out the driver had bleeding cuts all over her head.  I asked if she was in pain or if I could do anything.  I then used my cell phone to call 911 for an ambulance which arrived with in minutes.  She then told me she was very sorry.  She said earlier that morning, she felt a lump in her breast and was on the way to the doctor.  She said she must have blacked out behind the wheel.   The ambulance arrived and took her away as the police finally arrived.  They ended up ticketing her for the wreck, sighting her for running a red light and speeding.  My car, her car and a parked car were totaled.

Six months later, I was walking in "The Park" Downtown in the food court section with some friends.  It was very crowed as usual when I felt someone grab my shoulder to pull me a round.  I was then facing a woman who said, "Do you own a RX7?."  I told her, I use to.  She then said that she was the woman who hit me in her car.   Wow!, what were the odds of her recognizing me in a crowd.  We talked for a few minutes.  She told me that the lump turned out to be a false impression.   I wished her the best and we said good bye.  It is amazing in life how people's paths cross.
