Obituary Notice for
Captain Joseph Dalferes
New Orleans Newspaper 1887

Dalferes - In New Orleans, Tues. Nov 15, 1887 at 4 p.m. Capt Joe Dalferes, a native of Assumption parish age 54 yrs, "Capt Joe" was one of the best known and most popular men ever connected with the steamboat interest of the New Orleans and Lafourche trade with which he was identified for many years.  In his native parish and wherever else his acquaintance extended, he was noted for his kindly and courteous disposition, unswerving integrity and unstinted generosity.  Few men were larger hearted and the memory of his good deeds will be cherished by a host of beneficiaries of his liberality, benevolence and sympathy.  For several years past he had been an invalid, but physical sufferings did not sour his temper and he was always the same frank, genial warm hearted Capt Joe until the vital spark went out and death claimed him for his own.  Peace to his ashes.

A widow and several children including two grown sons are left to mourn his loss, and to those the chief proffers profound sympathy.  The remains of the lamented deceased were brought to Donaldsonville on the steamer Belle Of The Coast arriving Thursday morning and were taken hence by land to the village of Plattenville and interred in the cemetery of the Assumption parochial church.  A large concourse of relatives and friends participated in the obsequies.
