Mike Flaherty finally becomes a Doctor
Party 5/31/97

One of my two fraternity pledge brothers has a pretty amazing story of stupidity and triumph.  His first two years at University of Houston were typical of students who don't know what they want to do in life.  Mike, #33, made mostly "B"s with a few "A"s.   After only having around 18 hours to show for himself, suddenly something changed and he became a hermit to the library and his home where he completed his pre-med degree with a nearly a 4.0 grade point average.  Mike took the exams for entrance into medical school and had his pick of any school.  His test scores were in the top 5%.

Mike being the brilliant guy he was, he decided to forgo Medical School and travel the USA stopping at Fraternity houses along the way for a couple of years.  His mom called me numerous times to try to talk him out of it.  His mom even told me that Mike was getting calls from some of the Medical Schools asking him if he had made a decision.

Three years later, Mike finally decided it was time to go to Medical School.  Unbeknownst to him, he had to take his exams again where he did not score high enough to gain entrance.  After one more year of studying, he took the exams and got only one opportunity at a Medical School at Texas Tech.  I went to a party before he left to medical school and to his next part where after graduation, he was acceptance for residency at a hospital in Chicago.  I got to see my other pledge brother, Eric White #35 and his 2nd wife Laurie, and Nadem Nasir #28, MD. with his wife.  We hadn't seen each other over ten years.
