Deiler also indicates that some of the last names of persons left at Brest, France were:
Scheckschneider, Schaf, Trischi, Traeger, and Keller. (42)
DEILER GOES ON TO WRITE THAT THE "LA GARONNE" WAS THE SHIP
with 300 very sick Germans which was taken by pirates near San Domingo.
(43) The La Garonne was one of four ships known as "pest ships." Deiler indicates that the
passenger lists were given to the Louisiana Historical Society. This author was unable to obtain such lists.
However, these ships sailed from L'Orient, France on January 24, 1721, made a brief stop at Brest, France,
went across the Atlantic, more than likely all ships stopped at San Domingo, and then sailed to Biloxi,
Mississippi, and arrived in March, 1721 (refer to Figure 3-1). Deiler indicates that of the 1200 Germans on
the four ships, only 200 reached Biloxi. (44)
THE ABOVE FACTS WERE SEARCHED MOSTLY OUT OF author. It is a high probability that
that all Montz families of Louisiana, or whose decedents came from Louisiana have been in
America since 1721.
