CENSUS RECORDS
1810- 1880:
BECAUSE THE FIRST DESCENDENT OF ALL MONTZ GENERATIONS CAME from what is now called St. John The Baptist Parish
in Louisiana, and also St. Charles Parish, this author investigated the U.S. Census records from the years
1810 to 1880.
THE ABOVE FINDINGS SHOWED THAT MANY GENERATIONS OF MONTZ families lived in the above two parishes for many
many years. The rich coastal area of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans was the
habitable area for over two-hundred and fifty years.
IT IS NOT THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORK STRICTLY TO GIVE A FACT by fact account of a family tree. However, as many
facts on families from the census will be shown for anyone wishing to pursue a family tree.
IN SCANNING THE RECORDS, IT WAS SHOWN THAT MANY FAMILIES by the name of "Montz," "Muntz," or "Mons," were very
large. Sometimes as many as seven children were recorded. Also, many times a parent, uncle, or other
close relative boarded with the family. It was found also that most Montz generations lived to be quite
old. The reason is that they lived quiet, energetic lives filled with faith, hope, and a rich pursuit of an
occupation.
THIS AUTHOR WOULD HIGHLY ADVISE ANYONE WISHING TO CONDUCT A extensive search into the family tree of their family
to visit the Genealogical Branch of the Public Library, Houston, Texas, on LaBranch Street for extensive census
records and other data.
OTHER CENSUS LISTINGS OF OCCUPATIONS:
